In crafting my annual New Year’s message, I got this year’s theme, “SAVED BY DESIGN,” on October 27. Originally focused on how design practices rescue young individuals from financial struggles, I plan to launch a podcast where I’ll invite designers to share their experiences of how practicing design has rescued them from poverty or a broke life.
The concept evolved in November as I was working on the design process, it encompassed a profound parallel—the divine design of salvation. Just as design rescues in the creative realm, God’s intentional design through the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus reconciles humanity to Himself. Salvation is solely a gift from God, demonstrating His pleasure in saving the world at the cost of His own Son.
